For the past one month preparing for graduate school application, I tried to better understand myself.
After joined the workshop, I found myself not diligent at all. Katie is doing her first intern in fortune 500 company when 16. Aris has been working out for 10 years. However, friends still thought me that I am excellent, which I would prefer them to call me interesting. Later I found myself driven by curiosity and the spirit of searching.
First, be curious about everything, from economics and consulting, philosophy and politics, entrepreneurship and creativity, and later I found myself interested in microfluidic and thermal management, which would combine the design and science to produce technology. I found out a broad interest would be the inner motivation for me to keep exploring and never stop.
Gradually, I found to be excellent is not my goal, but to be interesting would be awesome. Every time I talked to someone in another field, I would be excited to find out the similarity and the difference in different fields, especially when I found out the similarity between entrepreneurship and research. I became such relived that I could enjoy both at same time.
Further, I am always been searching. I would stop and think a little bit rather than keep on working all the time. Entering in Tsinghua, I found myself gifted in nothing. Therefore, my mind would be my best weapon. I used to be someone who knew nothing about numerical heat transfer, I would think about what is the best way to improve it, and do it right now, from reading tutorials, programs by others, and jumping into the senior's course.
Searching makes me somehow different. I would searching for answers to tons of questions in class, which could not be answered by professor. For several times, I was the only undergraduate in different seminars to search my interest. In every semester I would leave a week doing nothing for a deep thinking about what is going on this semester, and what should be the next step. For undergraduate, I have been searching what is the best way to broad my horizon.
Fortunately, this do not make me feel alone, since the more I knew the nature of human and society, the more I became confident about my personality. Those who keep searching would always be alone therefore he could search more into the unknown. Steve Jobs appears paranoid when he insist on his idea of perfect phone. Elon Musk attended few classes in Wharton, since he prefer reading diverse books on his own. I guess being no fear of different would be the first step of searching for something unique.
