Hello! I am Letian Wang, a Ph.D candidate in Mechanical Engineering, UC Berkeley. I work on light induced thermal, optical and phase transformation on semiconductor nano resonators by in-situ electrical and optical diagnostics. Back in my undergrad days in Thermal Engineering in Tsinghua University, I am pretty much a thermal guy. Then I started studying crystallization, nano fabrication and nanophontonics in Berkeley. Till the end, I am more focused on the in-situ probing and diagnostics of laser interaction with materials.
I start my research in undergrad with simulation and scientific computing. After came to Berkeley, I realized the beauty of optical experiments and nano fabrication. I am amazed at the delicate nanostructure built through macro scale tools. I can spend whole day build optical setup and measure signals. Just recently I realized not only data is important, the way we process and analysis is also important. The conventional way experiment-simulation-explanation is only valid for very specific ideal cases. More generic probing and data analysis scheme should be sought for.
